Location: New York, NY  Date: January 31, 1988
Setlist: One In A Million, Patience, Cornshucker, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Used To Love Her, Don't Cry, Welcome To The Jungle, It's So Easy, Not Fade Away [Intro], Mr. Brownstone, Patience, Instrumental Jam, Rocket Queen [Instrumental], You Shook Me, Rock And Roll [w/ Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)], Instrumental Jam

Information: Acoustic / electric show. The set starts out acoustic, with one of two known performances of "One In A Million". "Cornshucker" is performed - possibly the only time it was. After "Don't Cry" the band takes a break, only to return for an electric set. "Patience" was performed acoustically and electrically, and after the 2nd version, Axl leaves the stage, pissed because the band wasn't supposed to do the electric set. He later returns for short moments during the following instrumental jam, to sing parts of "Whole Lotta Rosie" and "Born To Be Wild". After the jam, "Rocket Queen" is started, but stopped after a while. A roadie then takes the mic and they do Willie Nelson's "You Shook Me" and Led Zeppelin's "Rock And Roll", without Axl. Apparantely there were some misunderstandings, because when the roadie started singing "Rock And Roll", the band actually started playing "Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)" by Led Zeppelin. Axl comes back on stage during "Rock And Roll" and does some backin' vocals. During the set, the band has girls dancing in cages.

In Their Own Words

Slash: I remember playing the Limelight. We didn't take it all that seriously: our plan was to just fly in and use some other band's equipment. [...] we missed our flight because Axl was running late. [...] By the time we got to New York City, it was time to go right to the show. [...] I'd slept maybe an hour on the plane. [...] It was a pretty good night. The only problem was the dreaded moment when we had to play "Sweet Child O' Mine". It took me ten minutes to get those first eight notes together. [...] I think it was the same night that I stage-dove and the crowd parted like the Red Sea and let me hit the floor.1
