November 1, 2006 Who's Frank Ferrer?

So since we got a new member of the GnR family, I thought I should use a little space to welcome him. This is not the time to write a biography, but I did a little checking (which I will have to do at some point either way).

Frank FerrerThere's not a lot of information about Frank at the moment. Standard searches at Google to find a biography or an interview of Frank makes me stumble upon one Frank Ferrer who acted in a movie in 1979 and a Puerto Rican (who was a musician, but in 1980). Then there's also another Frank Ferrer at Allmusic.com, who released an album titled "Puerto Rico 2013" in 1989. This could all be the right Frank Ferrer but I wont claim so.

At the concert in Puerto Rico a few days ago, Axl hinted Ferrer was from there (which might make the other Frank Ferrer his father?). This is about all that is known about him besides his music career, which began in 1990, when he played on The Beautiful's self titled EP. The Beautiful released their debut album "Storybook" in 1992, before they seem to have split on". Ferrer seems to have joined Richard Butler's Love Spit Love, which also featured Richard Fortus at some point in 1991. They released their self titled debut the following year. The song "Am I Awake", according to Wikipedia, got some critical acclaim and airplay on MTV (as well as the song "Wake Up", which I personally remember from MTV.

Ferrer then went on tour with Love Split Love, and he also featured on the band's follow up, Trysome Eatone, which was released in 1997. The band officially split up in 2000, after much time inactive.

Love Spit LoveFollowing Love Split Love, Frank and Richard again played together, this time in the New York band Honky Toast. They released one album, "Whatcha Gonna Do Honky?", in 1999. GnR-assosciate Del James later praised them, saying the band "was the best band to come out of that city since D-Generation."

In 2004, Ferrer toured with Tommy Stinson, which later led to Stinson's recommandation of Ferrer as a fill in for Brain when Brain wanted to take time off to be with his family during the Guns N' Roses tour in Europe in 2006. Fortus logically also recommended Ferrer as a stand in.

After filling in several dates, Frank later returned to the band on their North American leg, this time being confirmed as a (touring) member of the band.

On a sidenote, I believe I saw Ferrer in the streets of Oslo, sitting somewhere.

I might add more later on to this.
