| Greg Gilmore was born in
1962 in France. He grew up with music surrounding him since his father was a drummer. Greg
himself began playing drums in the 6th grade, after playing trumpet for a while. Greg
played in the Living with Duff McKagan in the early 1980s, and after that, he joined 10
Minute Warning, where he again played with Duff McKagan. He stayed with the band until it
split in 1984, and Greg went to Los Angeles to meet Duff. Greg tried out for Duff's band
Road Crew, but he didn't like their sound, so he went back to Seattle. In December 1987, Greg joined Mother Love Bone, which also featured singer Andrew Wood, guitarists Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam) and Bruce Fairweather and bassist Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam). "I knew Stone and Andy from just around. I didnt actually know Stone very well, we knew who each other was, and that was about it. Id been travelling in Asia for five months, and the day that I got back I was walking around town and ran into Stone. He just asked if I wanted to come down and jam and see what happens," Greg said. The band released their debut EP "Shine" in 1989, and started working on their first full-length album. The album was completed late in 1989, and it was set for release the spring, 1990. Expectations for the album were high, and Wood decided to check in to rehab to conquer his drug addiction, so he would be as fit as possible until the release of the album. Wood's attempts to recover failed, as he was found unconcious on March 16, 1990 by his fiance. After 3 days, Wood was pronounced dead. The band split up, but their full lenght, titled "Apple", was released later the same year. After Mother Love Bone, Greg moved to Los Angeles. In the mid-nineties (probably 1997), Duff got a call from legendary Seattle record label Sub Pop, asking Ten Minute Warning to record an album for them. They agreed and put together the original band and recruited Christopher Blue as their singer. Their selftitled debut album was released on May 5, 1998. A few gigs were played that summer, before the band once again parted ways. In the early 2000s, Greg Gilmore formed the record label First World Music, with several other musicians. The label differs from other record companies in a few ways: artist are responsible for producing their music and they are also respoinsible for promoting it. As a result of this, the artists owns the master tapes, and all proceeds from CD sales goes directly to the artists. (Updated January 25, 2005) |
